Science behind Saturate
Broken down to their most basic form, audio signals are a result of several different sine waves at different frequencies to create a tone. Applying saturation or overdrive to a signal will result in the amplitude of the lower frequencies taking more head-room within your dynamic range, causing a muddy and 'blown-out' sound that is reminiscent of a speaker being pushed too hard. In traditional saturators, this can result in a tonal balance shift that focuses more on the lower frequency content of your signal and make for an unbalanced sound.
Saturate uses a proprietary 'Spectral Clipper' technology to combat this and to retain all of the finer detail in even the most saturated signals. Using intelligent detection, the saturation is based on the curve of your audio source, whereby each frequency is treated independently, meaning all of your lower frequencies do not eat into the headroom of your signal. Now, you can use up to 24dB of saturation without losing the detail and tonal balance in your signal.
Preserve your detail
When applying heavy amounts of saturation in other plug-ins, you will often find that when your signal hits the limiter you lose all of the finer detail within your track. This occurs as the limiter acts by chopping off any peaks above the user-set threshold. With Newfangled Saturate, this becomes a thing of the past! No matter how hard you drive Saturate, the sophisticated signal processing engine retains all the detail in your track, preserving transients and dynamics to keep your track sounding exciting and explosive.
Saturate can deliver up to 24dB of overdrive saturation without ever suffering from a 'blown out' sound that can so frequently happen with other saturator plug-ins. Expertly engineered, the drive dial is incredibly smooth with no 'steps' or dead spots, making Saturate the ideal choice for modern producers looking to add over-the-top searing saturation to your tracks.
Including both a soft and hard clipping mode, Saturate is not only ideal for individual tracks, but you can use it on mix of instruments or a full master. Mixing engineers can transform weak and lifeless drum tracks to exciting and hard-hitting drums that explode with character on each impact and mastering engineers can bring up the level of a full mix with saturation to give your song energy and movement.
