Musing by Arcus recognises a fundamental issue with traditional "carbon" bows - they consist of more epoxy resin than carbon fibres. Although this makes manufacturing the bow a very simple process, the abundance of epoxy dampens the high-frequency overtones. This is why these bows often sound dull, uninspiring, and don't project very well.
To ensure the bow speaks the same as a Pernambuco model, Musing by Arcus had to develop their own manufacturing technique. They found by having 3D woven carbon fibres which are formed under high pressure into a bow stick to produce the resonance and overtone-rich sound that musicians require. This hollow and thin-walled design has a very uniform structure, but most importantly, very low resin content. As a result, Musing bows are extremely break-resistant and are completely insensitive to humidity changes.
Built to last
All Musing bows are designed and manufactured in Wurzburg, Germany. Made using Musing's own proprietary process with the best possible materials, each bow is built with the utmost care and attention. As a testament to this quality, Musing offers a 15-year warranty on the stick and a two-year warranty on the frog. Neither warranties are limited to the initial owner and therefore are transferable. (Please note, hair, winding, thumb leather screw, and eye are excluded from the warranty as they are subject to normal wear and tear.)
Free of restrictions
Many traditional bows are made using products that were once ok, but are now frowned upon in the modern world. Whalebone windings, lizard skin thumb rests, ivory tip plates, and tortoiseshell frogs are just a few examples of where animals were used for bow parts. Although some may argue the benefits of using such parts, they are strictly no longer allowed through customs as they directly impact endangered animals. This is an issue for many orchestras and musicians who need to travel, and why Musing has produced their C range of bows to be 100 travel compliant. In fact, they are the first carbon bows that not only travel without any restrictions, but also sound and play as good as traditional models.
