Ethically sourced European wood
When making a violin, the choice of wood is top-priority. And just like wine, the region the wood is from can make all the difference. Whereas most student instruments use wood from humid countries in Asia, we exclusively use ethically sourced wood from Eastern Europe for our Archer violins - predominantly from Romania. Thanks to the cold and dry climate of this region, the trees grow much slower and therefore give a much closer grain. And the secret to having instrument-grade wood is all in the closeness of the grain.
One of the reasons that Stradivarius violins are so popular is because of the choice of wood. Back in 1700-1800, the forests in Central Europe were perfect for their really close grain trees, which ultimately provides the best resonance.
We understand the importance of preserving these forests for future generations. This is why we only buy wood from reputable suppliers who are environmentally sustainable. Every single violin in the 500 series is made from this wood. This way you know you are getting a premium instrument which could otherwise cost you 10-times as much.
Hand-built by a master craftsman
What really makes the 500 series violin stand out is the manufacturing process. The Archer violin is made in a specialist part of the factory which closely resembles a Japanese Minka house, compared to a standard workshop. Why is this important? The luthiers that work in this part of the factory are allowed to flourish and concentrate on every detail of the violin. Only the best 10-12 craftsmen are allowed to work here to guarantee superior quality.
When making the violins, one person is assigned to one instrument. This means no long production lines, no poor craftsmanship, and no characterless instruments. The one craftsman will work on the instrument from the start to finish, making sure each part works homogeneously and faultlessly. The result is a hand-crafted instrument of superior quality which is brimming with personality and charm.
Redefining student standards
Just like the famous violins made in the 1800s, a Master Luthier has followed traditional techniques to ensure the Archer violin is made to the highest possible standard. By using the tried and tested combination of a two-piece middle-grade flamed Maple back with a solid Spruce top, the 500 series produces a rich sound with plenty of projection. Once assembled, the Archer violin is hand-finished with a lovely oil varnish.
Having high-quality fittings are essential for professional violinists. Not only do they increase the overall durability of the violin, but they can also add an artistic flair to your instrument. This is why we have gone out of our way to ensure the Archer 500 violin has some of the highest quality fittings around.
It will come as no surprise to learn the Archer violin has an Ebony fingerboard - an essential for professionals. The pegs, tailpiece, and chinrest are also made of Ebony. What's more, the 500 series violin comes with an Aubert bridge to enhance your tone.
Pirastro Tonica strings
Pirastro Tonica strings are a modern update on traditional strings. The A, D, and G strings' synthetic gut cores are made from nylon, which produces clear and warm tones. The medium gauge tension offers an ideal balance between versatility and playability. The E string is unwound steel for a more direct sound with high-end brightness. The Tonica strings have a smooth surface that's comfortable for your left hand while being responsive to both bowing and pizzicato playing.
Everything you need to get started
Your new Archer violin is supplied as an outfit, meaning it comes complete with everything you need to get started. To ensure that your new violin stays safe, it includes a black oblong case. Made from hardened foam, this case offers extreme protection for your violin as well as being lightweight. For an extra touch of class, the metal lock has a gold finish. To make sure that you can carry your essential accessories, the outside of the case features a full-length pocket - ideal for your music.
Carrying the case couldn't be easier. You can either use the dedicated carry handles with a comfortable velcro strap, or by the adjustable and detachable shoulder strap. For even more protection, the inside of the case is lined with a plush black material which will cushion your violin. The inside of the case has two more accessory pockets as well as two bow holders.
The included bow is made from Bulletwood - a CITES free, sustainable form of Brazilwood. It is meticulously crafted into an octagonal shape and uses unbleached natural white horsehair to produce the best possible sound. The bow comes complete with a comfortable thumb rest, fully mounted Ebony frog with a Parisian eye, and a three-piece screw.
