Key Features
A transformerless circuit is utilised within the MK-102. This has a number of benefits including the ability to perform in high SPL environments. This also helps achieve a wide frequency response range, making the MK-102 suitable for a range of sound sources. In off-axis application, the microphone is particularly adept at capturing room and ambient noise.

The MK-102 features a large, 27.5 mm condenser capsule that utilises precision-drilled control holes and an all-brass backplate construction. This is done to achieve optimum time and frequency domain performance. The result is capable of capturing pristine, clear audio without any detrimental factors or scooped frequencies. This becomes particularly effective in capturing presence in vocal performances.
A close-fitting housing surrounds the capsule, designed to allow the front diaphragm to function without internal headbasket reflections. The unique capsule and body orientation helps this further, reducing reflections between the microphone and the sound source. This is achieved using a pencil microphone body design, leaving the capsule on exposed to the sound source directly. All of this results in extremely clear audio, captured as intended.
Oktava have implemented their much-admired transformerless circuit from the MK-012 microphone in the MK-102. The transformerless design allows the MK-102 to deliver an uncoloured and clear sound. This also contributes to the MK-102’s extended high and low frequency response. One of the main benefits to implementing a transformerless circuit is the ability to handle much more volume without distortion. This makes the MK-102 extremely versatile in its application, suited to both loud and quiet sources.
The MK-102 provides different sound qualities with on or off axis applications. When on-axis, the MK-102 offers a smooth and extended frequency response with clean and accurate top end. This is done whilst retaining a warmth not always found with modern microphones. When off-axis, frequency response from 90 through 180 degrees closely resembles the on-axis sound and the attenuation of sound over this angular range is exceptionally smooth. This helps the MK-102 provide a flat frequency response that is maintained off-axis, adding a natural room sound element to recordings.
