The natural evolution
Boldly going where no mini has gone before, Minimonsta2 was buoyed by the success of the original. Praise from critics and musicians regarding the extraordinary sonic accuracy and interface design, since its 2005 release there has been no other alternative for the true mini experience. Minimonsta went much further than the original, augmenting the simplicity of the design with a range of new features which let you explore new tones that simply wouldn't be possible on the hardware original, all whilst retaining the same response and sound as the hardware. Minimonsta2 retains the same fundamental architecture of the predecessor but builds on it with a raft of carefully considered changes.
The 21st century classic
A new lease of life was needed for this 2005 original design. It's not enough that the sound is indistinguishable from the original, Minimonsta2 needed to be everything that you could do on the original and more. So what's new for Minimonsta2? Firstly, like Oddity, previous patch morphing has been removed in favour of four macros for easy, real-time control of multiple parameters.
An additional filter is included where unlike the original, resonance can be cranked to the maximum without any loss of low-end. Not only that, the three-stage envelope has been augmented with a fourth-stage option plus a dedicated filter and pitch LFO so you don't have to sacrifice VCO 3 for modulation duties. As well as retaining Minimonsta's XLFO and XADSR potential, you can essentially transform Minimonsta2 into a modular platform without the clutter of patch cables. This has all been compiled into a fully resizable interface and also features three different looks including light wood, dark wood and black.
[Mini]Monsta
Essentially functioning as two unique instruments, the Minimonsta 2 provides the full original feature set of the original mini synth and then some. A beautifully accurate resonant filter, snappy ADS envelope generators and the loop-feedback function all combine to enable you to get all the same tones and movement as you could on the hardware original. Traverse everything from fat basses to searing leads and much much more.
[Monsta]Mini
This is where your creativity can really shine. Using GForce's unique X-Modifier technology, adding movement and transforming sounds is made incredibly intuitive and exciting. An in-depth X-LFO and X-ADSR section offers modulation of almost every parameter, ideal for enhancing the movement of your oscillators with exciting envelope shaping.
Supercharged creativity
New for Minimonsta2, the powerful preset browser lets you discover new sonic worlds in an instant. Organise sounds in a way which suits your workflow with extensive tagging, sorting and searching possibilities. A preset management system wouldn't be complete without presets and with Minimonsta2 not only do you get 500 legacy presets from the original plug-in, but you get access to 300+ brand-new presets created by some of the world's best sound designers. See where your sound design takes you and dive into inspiration in an instant.
A synth beyond time
It's impossible to overstate the importance of the synth that the Minimonsta2 is emulating. A synth which defined everything which came after it, its 1970 launch took the synth out of the hands of the wealthy and academic schools and put it into the hands of everyone. The intuitive workflow, unsynchronized oscillators and the now-famous error which overdrives the mixer section and not forgetting the 4-pole 24dB/oct ladder filter, the result was a perfect relationship between musicality and circuit design. Anyone who was anyone owned one. Heard on famous records from Abba, Bernie Worrell, Gary Newman and more, this mini synth changed electronic music forever!
Reviews
"The sonic, aesthetic, and usability improvements that Minimonsta2 brings really feels like a night and day difference. Minimonsta was never just a Minimoog clone, but Minimonsta2 goes to a whole new level beyond emulation, equipped with tools to suit modern workflows and production styles, it can create almost any sound you can imagine… and many you can’t.” - Graeme Rawson (GForce Software)
