Spectral Envelope Transformer
The Spectral Envelope Transformer, a component of the FLUX Ircam Trax plug-in, serves as a real-time voice and sonic modelling processor. Utilizing augmented phase vocoder technology and innovative transformation algorithms, it enables users to manipulate distinct voice properties such as gender, age, breath, and other sound aspects like expression, formant, and pitch.
These transformative algorithms have been successfully employed in both international and French film productions, including Farinelli, Vatel, Tirésia, Les amours d'Astrée, and Céladon. The plug-in offers up to eight channels of concurrent processing for multichannel surround configurations, allowing users to disengage processing on any channel, leaving the material unprocessed and bypassing the original sound.
When operating on a multi-channel bus, all channels, up to eight in total, are processed by default. However, users can disengage processing for any number of channels, leaving the material unprocessed and bypassing the original sound. Combining this with serial instances enables processing on any number of channels with customized settings.
Spectral Envelope Morphing with Cross synthesis
The Cross Synthesis feature in the FLUX Ircam Trax plug-in is a Spectral Envelope Morphing Processor that employs a phase vocoder, which combines amplitude and frequency/phase spectra to blend the spectral characteristics of two distinct sounds. Due to the strong nonlinearity of the utilized features, the sound morphing process is also nonlinear, enabling the creation of an extensive array of innovative and unique sound effects.
Key parameters include Oversampling, which adjusts the oversampling factor; Overlap, controlling the frequency of analysis updates for a specific window size; Window Size, determining the time-frame base for extracting localized data from the input material; and Transient, toggling transient processing on or off. In addition, Amplitude (Cross Synthesis) allows control over the output amplitude's interaction with left and right channels, while Frequency (Cross Synthesis) manages the output's frequency content in relation to the inputs.
Preset and parameter handling
In the FLUX Ircam Trax plug-in, Preset and Parameter Handling is designed to optimize workflow efficiency. The plug-in features two Preset/Parameter slots, A and B, which can simultaneously hold two complete sets of parameters. Users can save individual presets as well as a "Global Preset" that encompasses both A and B settings and the position of the "Morphing Slider."
The Morphing Slider enables seamless blending between the parameter settings of slots A and B, offering creative and practical real-time adjustments. By activating the Automation control button, the Morphing Slider becomes accessible for host automation, further enhancing user control and flexibility.
Enhanced sound filtering with Source Filter
The Source Filter feature in the FLUX Ircam Trax plug-in offers enhanced sound filtering capabilities. Based on a signal model that decomposes the signal into a time envelope, it outlines the energy/loudness contour of the sound and a spectral envelope that describes the timbre's spectral color. This allows users to continuously blend the source sound's energy contour and spectral color with those of any filtering sound, enabling transformations that surpass traditional source filter morphing effects.
Key parameters include Oversampling, which adjusts the oversampling factor; Overlap, controlling the frequency of analysis updates for a specific window size; and Window Size, determining the time-frame base for extracting localized data from the input material. The Temporal Envelope (Source Filter) manages the dynamics imprinting onto the output signal from channel 2 versus channel 1. The Spectral Envelope (Source Filter) handles source and filter track extraction and analysis.
Additionally, the plug-in features True Bypass control for directly routing the incoming signal to the output, ensuring a smooth transition between clean and processed audio. Open Sound Control Support is also included, further expanding the plug-in's versatility and functionality.
