Vintage sound, modern appointments
Now you don't need to worry whether you've purchased the right vintage pedal with the special diodes or capacitors to get "that sound". Delay Brigade encompasses the exact tone from the most sought-after variant of this classic guitar pedal in software format, allowing you to use it on any instrument in your mix, as many times as you want! Arturia has painstakingly recreated the original hardware with indistinguishable sound but it goes far beyond what's possible with the pedal.
Taking advantage of all the digital realm has to offer, Arturia has added an input EQ to shape the signal sound before it hits the delay pedal, making it ideal for fine-tuning out harsh frequencies which get accentuated with each delay repeat, or can simply be used as a creative effect for some interesting tonalities in your delay repeats. Where the original pedal only had one delay type (mono), Arturia offered three different stereo modes to help add width and space to each repeat and comes with Mid/Side, L/R stereo and Ping-Pong.
You can also adjust the size of the buckets inside the circuit, increasing them for longer delay times than what would be possible on the pedal. Just like other delays in the Arturia line-up, Delay Brigade includes onboard modulation sources, an LFO and Envelope Follower. These are perfect to pair with the DAW automation capabilities of the plug-in to create ever-evolving tones which move with the dynamics throughout your song!
What is a BBD?
Strangely named from the world of firefighting, where they would pass buckets of water from one person to another along a chain to extinguish a fire. In musical terms, a BBD passes a signal through a series of capacitors to achieve delayed echos. Each capacitor is thought of as a "bucket" where the signal passes through the next capacitor, creating the delay signal. The more the signal passes through capacitors, the more degraded the sound becomes, creating the noisy, distorted and often pitched effect you hear on BBD devices. To get around this unwanted degradation, the delayed signal is filtered, to create a dark and warm sound which made these kinds of pedals so loved by lo-fi indie, pop, and new wave musicians.
Powered by technology
Using proprietary modelling algorithms, Delay Brigade can recreate the iconic effect down to the component parts to create unrivalled realism and immersion. Unmatched in analog emulation, Delay Brigade is powered by TAE and Phi technologies. TAE offers component-level modelling to accurately present the characteristics and behaviour of the effect, whilst Phi's state-of-the-art physical modelling brings the acoustic properties into the virtual world for hyper-realism. The result is truly a next-level sound that is indistinguishable from the original to add to your productions.
