DiMarzio Blade pickups
Untouchable tone. The DiMarzio Blaze pickup set that comes with the APEX30 could not be better suited to low-tuned metal. The bridge humbucker has been tuned especially to enhance the thick, low-end beef of seven or eight-string guitars. A somewhat scooped mid response cleans up the filthiest tones just enough to let the Ibanez Munky's power and note resonance shine through.
The matching Blaze neck position pickup takes this even further, with a smooth, broad sound and a slightly reduced output compared with its bridge counterpart. This makes it ideal for chiming cleans, searing solos, and even lightly driven, jazzy tones - real strength in depth. A traditional three way blade makes switching or blending the DiMarzios simple, and a straightforward, single volume, single tone pot setup keeps the APEX30 Munky focussed on one thing - a punishing nu-metal performance.
Evertune bridge
Say goodbye to mid-set tune-ups. Nothing kills the vibe of a sweaty rock show like an out of tune guitar. Thanks to the APEX30 Munky's built-in Evertune bridge, you'll never have to pause to tune up again. The Evertune system is a radical design, which uses an intricate combination of gear and levers to precisely maintain each string's tension, no matter how hard you go on stage.
Decide how much variation you want to allow in each individual string's pitch, simply by turning a screw. This means you can set your lowest strings for perfectly intonated sludge, no matter how hard you pick, while keeping the ability to perform bends in the higher register. And don't worry about bending those new strings - the Evertune is constantly recalibrating to counteract that drop in pitch as your new strings bed in, so you can string up and hit the stage with confidence.
Korn - Here to stay
The godfathers of nu-metal. Formed in 1993 in California, Korn have spent more than a quarter of a century redefining the sound of metal, and metal guitar in particular. Munky's iconic and unmistakable low-strung growl quickly became the signature sound of the genre that would soon be dubbed 'nu-metal'.
Best showcased on huge hits like Got the Life and Freak on a Leash, Munky's unique playing style is characterised by ominous, single-note riffs and huge, power-chord choruses, almost always dripping in heavy distortion and utilising the full, extended range of his drop-tuned guitars. His playing has inspired guitarists from Limp Bizkit's Wez Borland to Slipknot's Jim Root. Now his signature Ibanez APEX30 model is here to inspire you too.
