Jim Root and the Telecaster

As guitarist for Slipknot and Stone Sour, Jim Root is known for his powerful tones and low-tuned riffs. His signature Squier Jim Root Telecaster takes the iconic Telecaster body shape and adapts it to the requirements of modern metal players. In Jim's words, "I wanted to take something very traditional and very classic and make it the absolute opposite of what it was." The Telecaster is renowned for its versatility and rock-solid stability - now metal players can gain access to those same characteristics along with the classic Telecaster aesthetic.

The Squier Jim Root Signature Telecaster provides dual humbuckers mounted to a mahogany body - this is a rarer choice for a Telecaster yet is a common tonewood in other humbucker guitars, chosen for its warmth and resonance. This guitar is crafted for powerful tones with a smooth-feeling body and fast playability; perfect for ambitious modern rock and metal players.

Modern Playability

The Squier Jim Root Telecaster is crafted for a fast playing feel for the technically demanding styles of rock and metal. The neck features a thin "C" shaped neck which enables easy reach over all 6 strings. The fingerboard has a modern 12'' radius which is relatively flat to provide a smooth and level playing surface for technically challenging playing styles. The classic Telecaster single-cutaway body is enhanced with a cut-away bolt-on neck joint; this provides easy access to the upper frets, and ensures you'll be able to play high range solos with no barriers to the top notes.

Classic Tonewoods

The Squier Jim Root Telecaster is constructed with a mahogany body - this is a rarer choice for a Telecaster yet is a familiar tonewood to rock and metal players. Mahogany is chosen for its warm and resonant sound with excellent mid-range response and sustain. The Jim Root neck is maple for a smooth playing feel and bright sound, while the fingerboard is laurel which provides almost identical tonal and aesthetic properties to the rosewood that it replaces due to new CITES legislation. The body is completely satin-matte finished which gives a smooth and tactile playing feel along with an enhanced ability for the woods to resonate. Matte finishes gradually age with an individual character, so your guitar will gain a unique aesthetic dependent on your playing style.

Powerful Tones

A dual humbucker pickup arrangement takes the Telecaster beyond it's 'twangy' country guitar roots and makes it well-suited to rock and metal performance. However, roll back the volume controls and you'll find that this guitar cleans up for a more classic Telecaster tone. The pickups are wired with a single volume control for complete ease-of-use, while the 3-way pickup switch offers a balance between biting bridge-position sounds and mellow neck-position tones.

… the fingerboard is flatter than the one you'd find on a regular Telecaster, which would normally be around 9½ inches. As a result, string bends and other acrobatics are considerably easier to pull off. In combination with the satin-finished, modern C-shaped maple neck, it's a joy to play and should prove a hit with rock and metal fans who don't want a super-skinny neck for playing at speed."
