Whereas most overdrive circuits are fully analog, digitally processing the signal allows the OD-1X to do far more, like adding natural compression. This compression gives everything a smooth edge and gives a polished outputted sound. This suits the tone choices of this pedal, Boss wanted to make a modern overdrive so treble and bass frequencies are emphasised over midrange here, coupled with having a touch-sensitive dynamic response and the natural compression and you can be sure everything you put through this pedal comes out studio-ready; the OD-1X does all the hard work for you.
