Matchlessly rich warmth. The Luna Moonbird solid body is crafted from solid mahogany, emphasising the bouzouki's voice in the low and mid-sections. Mahogany is also an extremely versatile wood with a distinct character. Enjoy tender softness and precisely balanced tones, as well as sharper notes in the high end that give the Moonbird a bite of its own. Combine all of this with the mahogany body's superb resonance, and you've got an instrument with supreme tonal capabilities.
Sparkling highs. The Moonbird's maple neck is topped with a black walnut fingerboard capable of delivering sharp, twinkling high notes. This is perfect for those who favour finger-picking techniques and a softer feel, allowing higher pitched notes to really shine through. The maple neck itself provides a sturdy, singing effect that adds great resonance to your playing. A wonderful overall sound palette.
The most stage-ready bouzouki ever. Bouzouki players often have to suffer along with instruments that don't have a big enough acoustic resonance or quality electric pickups to suit playing live. This is not the case with the Luna Moonbird, which comes fully-equipped with a deceptively powerful Luna Mini Humbucker. The pickup features a volume control to increase dynamism, a 3-way toggle, and a tone control to help you experiment with your bluegrass sound. The Mini Humbucker also minimises feedback, meaning you'll always be able to play with spectacular clarity.
The bouzouki originated in ancient Greece and has been around for centuries. Beginning its life in ancient Greek folk music, the lute-like instrument had something of a renaissance in the 1950s. Manolis Chiotis, a Greek virtuoso bouzouki soloist, began using a four-course bouzouki (meaning four sets of two strings) which could be tuned similarly to a guitar.
This development proved a success, as it made it much easier for those who could play the guitar to learn how to play the bouzouki. Thanks to this, the instrument became immensely popular within the Irish bluegrass genre that developed in the late '50s and early '60s. Luna's Moonbird maintains the bouzouki's classic, distinctive sound, is extremely playable, and more suitable for live performance than ever. A relic brought into the modern day.
