The innovative Iso-Pod stand from Genelec solves a huge list of problems that can occur when finding the best position for your monitors. It attaches to the aluminium enclosure of your Genelec 8020D, providing excellent stability and isolation for your monitor. It has four shallow feet and is made from a specialized rubber-like material, and allows for a +/-15 degree tilt of the loudspeaker. This allows the unit to be pointed precisely towards the listened by adjusting the enclosure's inclination with the Iso-Pod. The isolation and damping properties reduce midrange colouration caused by undesirable vibrations being transferred to supporting surfaces. The Iso-Pod provides astonishing benefits in both usability and sound quality.
The design of the Genelec 8020D's enclosure is optimized to match the properties of the monitor drivers. Featuring rounded edges with gently curved front and sides, the innovative MDE technology achieves unsurpassed flatness of the frequency response alongside having minimum diffractions for superb sound stage imaging qualities. The elegantly curved enclosure reduces the outer dimensions of the unit, whilst maximising the internal volume for improved low frequency efficiency. The cabinet is made from die-cast aluminium, which is lightweight and stiff whilst being incredibly easy to dampen for a "dead" structure. Thanks to aluminium's natural characteristics, the cabinet walls can be made quite thin whilst retaining astounding durability alongside excellent EMC shielding and heat sink capabilities for the amplifiers.
The 8020D is ideal for critical audio production environments thanks to its ability to remain reliable and functional thanks to its protection circuitry. This circuitry design prevents driver failures by detecting signal levels, and automatically reducing the level should any sudden peaks or constant too-high levels arise. This circuitry does not affect the sound quality in any way, but prevents inadequate input signals from causing damage. With improved system reliability, the 8020D enables you to maximise your system's output sound level to get the best performance.
The Genelec 8020D features two powered amplifiers for optimised performance value. The bi-amplified design ensures optimal audio performance and fidelity, by assigning each of the two frequency bands with their own individual amplifier. This helps to optimise the audio fidelity and performance, ensuring you hear every nuance of the audio as it was intended. The amplifiers are designed to power both the woofer and tweeter individually. The 8020D also features an active crossover design allowing for a frequency response independent of any dynamic changes in the driver's electrical characteristics or the drive level, with increased flexibility and precision to adjust and fine tune each output frequency response for the drivers used. Each driver has its own signal processing and power amplifier to isolate each driver from the drive signals handled by the drivers, reducing inter-modulation distortion and overdriving problems. You also have the ability to compensate for sensitivity variations between drivers, as well as for the frequency and phase response anomalies associated with a driver's characteristics within the intended pass-band.
ISS (Intelligent Signal Sensing) Technology was developed by Genelec in early 2013, designed to track the signal input of the loudspeaker and detect if it is in use. If the ISS circuitry finds that the speaker is not in use for a certain period of time it will automatically switch to a low-power sleep state, consuming less than 0.5 watts. This is highly useful when it comes to studios and home studios as it minimises power usage while optimising performance value. The loudspeaker will immediately turn itself back on again once it detects an input signal, saving you power and money in the long run. If you wish to disable this feature you can simply turn on the 'ISS Disable' switch located on the rear panel of the monitor.
The 8020D delivers precise room response compensation for optimization of in-room performance. With a multitude of adjustable controls, the 8020D features room response adjustments to compensate for room influences to provide a flat frequency response at your listening position. The operating manual and datasheet for the 8020D contains a list of the preferred room response control settings for different installations, compiled from extensive practical experience and measurements carried out within specific acoustic environments.
The 8020D features DCW technology, a revolutionary approach taken my Genelec that has been developed and refined over more than 30 years. DCW technology shapes the emitted wavefront in a controlled manner, allowing predictable tailoring of the dispersion pattern. Resulting in superb flatness of the frequency response, the DCW technology in the 8020D minimizes early reflections, and provides a wide and controlled listening area with precise sound reproduction both on and off-axis. The key benefits of this technology include:
The most versatile feature of the 8020D is the wide range of mounting options, allowing you to place the monitor virtually anywhere. The 3/8’’ threaded hole on the base allows you attach to a range of speaker stands, plus the threaded holes are ideal for mounting to omnimount brackets. This lets you place the monitors in the optimal positioning ensuring maximum stability and audio performance. The included Iso-Pod stand can also be attached to the base or side of the monitor for vertical and horizontal positioning.
