The Sterling by Music Man John Petrucci JP157 is based on the Music Man JP family of instruments, created for the uncompromising progressive metal playing of John Petrucci. Crafted in Indonesia, the Sterling JP157 offers players the same thoughtful design touches, versatile tones, and effortless playability of the Music Man JP guitars, but at a more accessible price-point for discerning players. This guitar is a professional instrument in its own right and would be the ideal extended-range studio or live performance tool for modern guitarists.

Quality Tonewoods with Roasted Maple Neck

A mahogany body gives the JP157 a warm and resonant tone with great sustain. The body is topped with a flame maple veneer for a classy aesthetic that will stand out on any stage. The neck and fingerboard are crafted from roasted maple which gives enhanced stability, resonance, and a wonderfully smooth playing feel - just like a guitar that's already been 'played-in'.

Effortless Playability

The JP157 features smooth body contours to sit comfortably against the body whether stood up or sat down. The deep cutaways and low-profile 5-bolt neck joint enable unhindered access to the top-frets, so you'll have no problems with high-octane soloing right at the top of the neck. The 24 medium jumbo frets are mounted with a 16'' radius which is very flat and gives superb balance when crossing the strings - perfect for fast-picked runs and string-skipping. Every feature is crafted to enable the most complex of techniques, so you'll be sweeping, string-skipping, alternate picking, and playing legato with ease.

Versatile Dual Humbucker Tones

Two humbuckers give the JP157 a powerful output that is perfect for modern progressive metal. The volume control features an additional push-push 12dB boost, giving you an alternate solo level at the push of a button. The 3-way switch and volume/tone controls provide a simple yet effective way to sculpt your sound.  

Stable Hardware

The JP157 features a modern 2-point tremolo with 7 individual saddles for the perfect adjustment of string action and intonation. The tremolo gives a smooth action for pitch-shifting effects, supported by locking tuners that guarantee tuning stability. With the strong and stable 5-bolt neck joint, roasted maple neck, and locking tuners, the JP157 is a guitar you can rely on to remain in tune during long sessions, whether in the studio or on stage.

About John Petrucci

John Petrucci is best known as the guitarist, producer, lyricist and founding member of the successful progressive metal band Dream Theater. John is also known as a member of Liquid Tension Experiment as well as a solo player and educator. Dream Theater are known globally for their technically challenging styles of music, taking inspiration from diverse progressive rock bands and many other genres.
