The Martin 000-17E has a satin black smoke finish with contrasting grained ivoroid binding and pick-guard which show off the understated beauty of this guitar. The choice of a sitka spruce top delivers a bright and clear tone with a warm character. This particular tonewood is extremely vibrant providing an ideal platform for transmission of sound on any size and style of stringed instrument. It is the primary top wood for Martin guitars due to its straight, uniform grain, longevity and tensile strength. The sitka spruce top-tone is balanced out well by the mahogany back and sides, as mahogany is denser and produces a richer tone, with emphasised warmth in the mid and low ranges. Mahogany also contains distinct character of soft warmth, but is well balanced, with a bite of its own. Mahogany is used a lot in the acoustic world, because it is relatively economical, durable, attractive, easy to work with, and resonant.
Due to it's rich heritage, mahogany backs and sides can be heard on loads of old recordings, and the inherent character of the tone lends itself well to blues and roots music to this day. In addition, it also provides a punchier and darker tone, with a prominent mid-range. The rosewood fingerboard and bridge pop against the rich, black satin finish and add extra detail to the overall appearance of this guitar.
The select hardwood neck is topped with a rosewood fingerboard that provides a warm, bright attack, and a stunning sparkly tone that really shines through when using finger picking techniques. The select hardwood neck is sleek, modern, and high performance for enhanced playability. Martin have modified the way they craft their guitar necks, it has a low oval profile, with performing artist taper, and 16" string spacing for a very easy playability. The Martin 000-17E neck is finished in satin for a comfortable play.
The Martin 000-17E has an X bracing pattern, which prevents your guitar from collapsing under tension. Bracing is very important when it comes to your guitar's durability, it reinforces a guitar's top and back. Scalloped bracing stops your guitar from collapsing under string tension and shapes the guitar's sound. Standard X scalloped bracing allows the top to vibrate more freely yet remains incredibly stable.
The Martin 000-17E comes equipped with Fishman's classic Acoustic Matrix Natural preamp. The sophisticated preamp features an ergonomic sound-hole, mounted volume and tone rotary controls. The benefits of the Matrix VT is that there in no need for control holes to be cut into the side of your guitar, and it is discreet and simple to use.
