Key Features
This Gibson guitar brings the look, feel and sound of the heavy sounding evolution of this legendary double-cutaway solidbody, into the hands of modern guitarists. As part of their year of the Les Paul, Gibson have launched a new series of SG guitars, each a tribute to a different decade. This SG is designed to capture the essence of a classic guitar of the 70s but with a striped down design for improved value and great performance.
Product Ref: 32099
The SG guitar was first released in 1961 as a replacement for the original Les Paul but the design remained iconic long after the single cutaway Les Paul returned later that decade. The SG 70s Tribute embodies the look, feel and tone of the original SG guitars from the era of heavy rock, carrying a pair of high-output humbucking pickups for unparalleled overdrive tones along with the characteristic 70s neck profile with volute.
Solid Mahogany Body
Like the greatest SG Standards, this SG begins with the classic tonewood foundation of a solid Mahogany body. Mahogany bodies are a Gibson favourite and and the 60s Tribute sees it crafted in the distinctive, thin, asymetrical dual-cutaway style with iconic pointed horns and beveled edges for superior playing comfort. The Mahogany gives a deep warmth and richness to the guitar's scorching, amped sound.
70s Neck Profile
The solid Mahogany neck is glued into the body in the traditional Gibson way and has been carved to a characteristic medium 70s profile that measures .810" at the first fret and .930" at the 12th with period-correct volute to strengthen the back-angled headstock. The Rosewood fingerboard has 24 medium jumbo frets, which maximise the neck's great fret access, and traditional trapezoid inlays.
Dirty Fingers™ Humbucking Pickups
The firepower for this 70s Tribute comes from a pair of Gibson's mighty Dirty Fingers™ humbucking pickups, a legendary component of 70s rock and among the two hottest pickups that Gibson has ever designed. These scorching humbuckers include powerful ceramic magnets and over-wound coils for a sizzling, sustainful sound that is still clear and articulate.
Premium Gibson Hardware
Gibson's most acclaimed hardware set ensures smooth playability and offers precise tuning and intonation. There's an independent volume and tone control per pickup plus a three way toggle selector switch that allows a broad range of sonic variations. Hardware on this 70s SG also includes a Tune-o-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece with a set of genuine Grover™ kidney button tuners. Put it all together and you have tons of sustain, precision tuning and a perfect tribute to the age of heavy rock in the Gibson SG.Understated, Elegant Design
This SG is both powerful and beautiful. In keeping with the understated design of this guitar both the body and board remain unbound and the body has been left pickguard free so as not to hide the satin Cherry finish. A PLEK-cut nut, made from black Corian™ complements the black witch hat knobs with silver inserts and black pickup rings, whilst also enhancing resonance and sustain. The headstock is silkscreened with Gold Gibson and holly logos.
