The 2013 Les Paul Studio is founded on the same traditional tonewoods that helped make the guitar legendary when it first arrived six decades ago. The carved solid maple top lends bite and articulation to the sound while the select mahogany back gives superb warmth and depth. The back is also treated with Gibson's new modern weight relief pattern to increase comfort and resonance.
The neck of the guitar is made from solid, quarter-sawn mahogany, carved in the fast 60s SlimTaper™ profile and glued-in. The rich, brown Granadillo fingerboard has 22 medium-jumbo frets and traditional trapezoid inlays, and is unbound in keeping with the stripped-down look.
Unparalleled tonal versatility is supplied by the pair of Gibson Modern Classics™ humbucking pickups. The 490R in the neck position gives vintage warmth and throaty blues tones while the hotter 498T in the bridge belts out all the scorch, sizzle and sustain you could possibly need. Both are wired for coil splitting, with individual push-pull tone-control switching to tap authentic single-coil tones.
The Min-ETune™ is a compact battery-powered tuning unit that sits on the back of the headstock and is hardly visible from the front of the guitar. You can still adjust the tuning manually, but now you can turn on the Min-ETune to choose from twelve popular tunings or program six of your own. It tunes your guitar in just three seconds and one strum, and can even adjust to other instruments' imperfect tuning with Reference Tuning.
